Evening Services

(6:30pm)

Our evening services contain extended times of worship, teaching from the Bible and Holy Spirit prayer ministry

The 3rd Sunday of a month is Transform, our dedicated worship service. No talk, just worship and prayer ministry. A space to come together and lift up the name of Jesus in praise and worship. For more information on this service click here.

All of our evening services takes place in Balerno Parish Church, except for the 1st Sunday of the month. This is what we call ‘Social Sunday’ and so we meet at St Mungo’s Ministry Centre for a cafe-style catch up. This is a time to hang out together and build community together.

FAQs

  • St Mungo’s Church is part of the Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) you can find out more about the SEC here.

  • The service times are between 1 hr 15 mins and 1hr 30mins.

  • All ages are welcome at the evening services, but there is no dedicated provision/groups for them. If you are looking for specific groups for your children and young people then check out our 10:30 services as there are dedicated groups.

  • Our services vary depending on the week of the month, but all begin with extended times of sung worship and an opportunity for Holy Spirit renewal prayer ministry.

People are invited to find a space in the room where they can worship and encounter God, but we encourage you to find a space in the cleared section of the sanctuary. This makes it easier for prayer ministry team and helps us to engage more easily in worship together.

After about 15 minutes, the trained ministry team offers to pray for anyone who wishes to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit. If you prefer not to receive prayer, you can sit on the back 2 rows of chairs and you’ll be given space to meet with God on your own.

When we have teaching, there is a 20-minute talk from the Bible and we sit on the chairs laid out at the back of the sanctuary.

  • We just want you to be comfortable so there's no pressure to dress up smart or wear your 'Sunday best'.  People usually come to church wearing jeans, t-shirt, trainers, hoodies etc. Just put on whatever you would normally wear and feel comfortable in.

  • The 1st Sunday of the month we meet together socially in the St Mungo’s Ministry Centre, 46b Bavelaw Road, EH14 7AE. We have refreshments and hold space for people to connect and spend time together as church family.

Every other Sunday we meet at Balerno Parish Church for Transform.

  • Yes, all the buildings we use are accessible. We’d love to put your mind at ease though, so if you’re thinking of coming along please get in touch and we’d love to answer any questions: enquiries@stmungos.org and we’d love to answer any questions.

  • We don’t take an offering as part of our services. If you would like to contribute financially to St Mungo’s Church then you can find all the information here.

  • There are no refreshments at the 6:30pm service.

  • St Mungo’s is a word and Spirit church, who believes that the Holy Spirit works in our lives today. Personal prayer ministry is the invitation for our trained ministry team to pray for you, they will do this by asking if it is OK to put their hand on your shoulder and will then pray and ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill you. This is entirely optional and there is no pressure or expectation on people to come forward for prayer ministry

  • We record our 10:30am Balerno Sunday service and upload it to our Youtube channel ‘as live’ on a Sunday afternoon.
