8:45 Service

(Traditional Eucharist Service)

Our 8:45 service is a traditional Eucharist service containing hymns, a talk and times of corporate prayer & intercession and meets in our church building in Balerno, Ladycroft.

It is a supportive and welcoming community with tea, coffee and biscuits after the service.

If you are looking for a more traditional service which follows a set liturgical structure then this is the service for you!

We’d love to see you.

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about attending one of our services. If there is anything else which you would like to know about this service, or anything else relating to St Mungo’s Church then please email: enquiries@stmungos.org

  • St Mungo’s Church is part of the Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC)

  • The service is about 1 hour.

  • The Eucharist is also referred to as 'Holy Communion’, ‘The Sacrament’ or ‘The Liturgy’. It is the part of the service where we recall and celebrate Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples the evening before his death on the Cross, and as we take this sacred meal together, it encourages us in our own Christian faith today. The service leader will lead the congregation through the same service structure and words each week, which includes parts where the congregation is invited to join in with responses and the service leader will help you to follow the service using the book you’ll be given as you enter the service. At one point the congregation is invited to come to the alter rail and receive Holy Communion, and this is open to anyone who loves Jesus. The service leader will explain what happens and how to come forward to receive communion. At the moment we are not using the ‘common cup’ but are using intinction - this is where you are invited to dip part of the bread (a circular wafer) into the cup (wine). We have gluten free wafers available, and if you require this, just let the service leader know when you come forward.

  • There's no pressure to dress up smart or wear your 'Sunday best'. We just want you to be comfortable.

  • There are no groups for children and young people at this service. If you’re looking for a service with great 0-18 groups, then we recommend trying our 10:30 services.
