UK and World Mission – Our Generous Response

As we continue to support our mission partners financially, with around 15% of our giving providing support to organisations both in the UK and around the globe, over the last 12 months we have also provided a space to increase prayer for the work of mission.

Once a month, on the 4th Sunday, our worship and prayer evening service is a place to spotlight and pray for our mission partners and projects, to hear from those directly involved and showcase each of their work to enable us to pray more specifically.

Our next mission prayer evening will focus on Starfish Asia, do join us on Sunday 26 February at 6.30pm.  Starfish Asia was also one of the recipients of our 2021 Christmas gift collection and you can watch a recent interview with Devin Scobie, Chair of the UK Trustees for Starfish Asia, here:  https://youtu.be/IaIeKj2TB4k

The recent preaching series on Generosity has reminded us again of the joyful response to the grace of God in the gospel and how we can play our part to live a life of generosity, through hearts that are softened to live in the same way Jesus did.

There are many ways we can get involved to support our mission partners, prayer is always a great gift and can be an easier place to start.  You can find out more about each of them here or download recent newsletters or prayer letters from here

Organisations also appreciate the precious commodity of our time and below are some ways where you could consider an opportunity to give some of your time if you are able:

  • SU Scotland:

    • Volunteer to join an SU camp over Easter or the summer.

    • Volunteer to be part of the team at Magnitude in July [youth festival] at Lendrick Muir.

  • Bethany Christian Trust:

    • Opportunities to help serve on the Care Van once a month.

    • Donate clothing for those in need.

    • Serve or prepare a meal for the Welcome Centre in the winter months – we are always looking for volunteers from November to April.

Alternatively, you may want to find somewhere in the community where you live to offer your time and local Facebook groups can be a great platform to find out what is going on in your area.

Whatever your response to the generosity preaching series this term, please do remember those organisations who live out Isaiah 1:17:

Learn to do good.
    Seek justice.
Help the oppressed.
    Defend the cause of orphans.
Fight for the rights of widows.

As we also look to live out this Scripture, let’s continue to support those who are responding to the latest natural disaster after the recent earthquakes which have devastated Turkey and Syria.  Latest news, ways to give and prayer resources can be found here:
