 What can parents do?

Aim of the course

To enable parents to identify ways in which they can nurture their child’s faith and  to plan how to implement them.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to;

  • Understand the basis on which they can help their children to make good choices

  • Identify small steps parents can take to help their children to pray and read the Bible with understanding

  • Use a Biblical world view  as a basis for discussing  a range of issues with their children

Programme

  • Introduction to the course and to each other. The world, parents, children and choice, dilemmas we face as parents and role models
  • Childrens’ spiritual development and the part that parents can play
  • Developing a biblical worldview of contemporary issues which will confront us all during our children’s childhood and adolescence.

For a small portion of our children’s lives we are in complete control and we make all the choices for them. Then we begin to allow them the responsibility of making choices and our role is to help them make good choices. Ultimately our children are adults and the choices are theirs alone.

Choices are made every day in regard to every part of our lives, including our health, our intellect, our character and our relationships with God and others. Since choices are so numerous and varied, we need to begin to build the foundation for helping our children make good choices by taking a look at the concept of choosing wisely.

Then if we are thinking specifically about our children’s spiritual development, we need to think of ourselves as spiritual leaders.  And then we need to understand how we can fulfill this seemingly daunting role with some confidence, equipping ourselves with skills and knowledge for the task!

  • Would you like to see your child speaking to God, without too much embarrassment, in a group of Christian friends?

  • Would you like to hear your child talking about what God has said to them, or done through them?

  • Would you like your child to worship wholeheartedly?

  • Would you like your child to enjoy reading the Bible and to understand it, perhaps better than you did at their age?

  • Would you like to know that your child is comfortable in their relationship with God?

This course aims to tackle some of these issues and give parents the confidence to be spiritual leaders in their families

The course provides an opportunity to look at different ways of developing your role as a nurturer of your child's faith

The course is open to parents, grandparents and others who are able to influence a child’s spiritual development
