We partner with Holy Trinity, Wester Hailes, helping to support their ministry in this area of the city.
We financially support the work of the Centre Manager, Angie Thomson. Angie heads up the Food Bank, the Cafe, and the day to day pastoral care for people coming into the Centre.
We also link with the young people there once a year for the Youth Weekend at Lendrick Muir, which young people from St Mungo’s and Holy Trinity attend together.
Volunteers from St Mungo’s help with activities during the week including their cafe, food bank and MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers).
We run a Wester Hailes prayer cell as a way of focusing on prayer for this ministry.
Safe Families for Children
This is a new venture to care for some of the most vulnerable members of our society – children whose parents are going through hard times and who often end up in the care system. Bethany has got involved in helping set up a Safe Families for Children project in Wester Hailes. This is the first project to be set up in Scotland.
The idea is to recruit Host Families who voluntarily open up their homes, without pay, taking in the children for a short spell whilst their parents get back on their feet. It’s not fostering and it’s not adoption – just simple kindness – and yet it has been shown to make a world of difference. There are also opportunities to help as ‘Family Friends’ or ‘Resource Friends’ by just being alongside or giving practical help.
