Care Van and Care Shelter
We support Bethany Christian Trust who provide vital help to homeless and vulnerable people in Edinburgh.
At St Mungo’s we give financial support to Bethany Christian Trust. A number of our congregation work full-time or part-time for Bethany and many more get involved with volunteering.
The Care Van provides a source of care and support for vulnerable and homeless people in the centre of Edinburgh every night, providing:
- Food, hot drinks, blankets & clothes
- Friendship and encouragement
- General advice & information
St Mungo’s provides volunteers to work on the Care Van.
Passing the baton
This project is about helping people settle in to new accommodation.
The Care Shelter provides rough sleepers with a place to go for the night where they can find shelter, a hot meal and a warm place to sleep.
Started in Edinburgh in 1996 with a 2-week pilot over Christmas, the Shelter has grown over the years to provide 48 beds each night, across 5 months over the winter, from November until April.
Safe Families for Children
St Mungo’s was the first church in Scotland to become involved in this initiative to provide support to families that need some help with care for their children, while they get back on their feet. We are supporting a project in Wester Hailes.
