At St Mungo’s we believe that small groups are vital for us to develop and grow as spiritually healthy Christians. As the church continues to grow, housegroups become increasingly important in enabling people to feel that they are part of our Christian community. Our groups exist as the primary place for pastoral care and Christian fellowship within the church. They are also a place where we can worship together, develop in the use of spiritual gifts, study the Bible together, and pray for one another and the church. Housegroups are therefore places where we
Housegroups meet in homes in the Balerno area, Edinburgh and West Lothian. Each group is made up of 8-16 people, and they meet on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings starting at 8.00pm on the first, third and fifth weeks of the month. Housegroups serve the church by providing some of the stewarding at our Sunday services. There are a number of practical points to be considered for those considering joining a group. First, membership of a house group is only appropriate for those who attend St Mungo’s, view it as ‘their’ church, and are happy to be under the spiritual leadership of St Mungo's. Implicit within that is a willingness to function within the framework of our Vision and Values, to live a Christian lifestyle and to support St Mungos’ ministry, mission and leadership. Second, people only benefit fully from a group, and groups only work well, if members can get to the vast majority of meetings. We therefore ask people to make a commitment to attend all group meetings if at all possible In conclusion We accept that not everyone may be able (or want) to be part of a house group, and that for some people there are practical and pastoral reasons why membership of a group is not appropriate. However, we believe that most people who count St Mungo’s as their church really need to be members of one of these significant and life giving small groups. If you wish to be considered for membership of a house group please complete and submit the form below and one of our staff will arrange to meet with you to discuss this. |
