David
I
studied physics at Heriot Watt University and first heard about Wycliffe
there. On the STEP program I was excited to learn of Wycliffe's' task -
translating the Bible- and I was keen to be involved. Later, I completed
an MSc in Information Technology and then worked in IT to gain experience.
In 1999, I took a linguistic training course in Texas for eight weeks,
followed by a ten-week course in software specific to Wycliffe's work. In
2000, I worked with Wycliffe, in Manila, providing computer support for
the staff of Asia Area Office.
Evelyn
I
am Missionary Kid, raised in France and in Belgium, Belgium being my home
country. As a child, I gave my life to the Lord and in my teens, I was
keenly aware of the need for everyone to have access to the Bible in their
mother tongue. I worked as a nurse and attended seminary in South
Carolina, where I studied for an MA in Christian Education. My desire for
people to build a personal relationship with God through His Word, led me
to join Wycliffe Belgium in 1999. An exciting and challenging visit to SIL
teams in Chad confirmed in my heart God's call to work there.
Together
We
first met at Wycliffe's Discovery course in November 1998, during which we
were both encouraged to join Wycliffe. While David worked in Manila,
Evelyn completed a year of SIL Linguistics training and a specialization
in Literacy at Horsleys Green in the UK.
In May 2001, we got married in Edinburgh where we adjusted to
married life. David has completed some Bible college courses and we've
both taken some further computer training. Then we went to Chad for
18 months and are currently in Belgium working for Wycliffe there.
