![]() Alpha is a Christian basics course for those wanting to find out more about the Christian faith, for those who have recently become Christians, and for Christians who want a refresher course. Alpha runs each term for 11 weeks; meeting each Thursday evening and with a day away in the middle. After a buffet meal there is a video and then discussion groups where questions can be raised and issues can be discussed. There is occasionally also an alpha group meeting at lunchtime on Thursday's. For more information look at the link to the left. These groups meet twice a month on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings to worship, learn from the Bible and pray together. They also have occasional social events. House groups provide a place to get to know people and to receive care, support and encouragement of others in the church. We encourage everyone who counts St Mungo's as their church to join a group. Small intercessory prayer cells meet weekly for an hour, either on Monday
evenings or Thursday mornings. Each group covers a different topic ranging
from aspects of St Mungo's life to world concerns. The groups begin with a
time of worship and then listen to God for direction as to what to pray for
before moving into intercession. This group is a parent and toddler group that meets in the church lounge on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. It is open to any who are caring for babies and toddlers. Men’s Ministry In November 2003 St Mungo’s launched a men’s ministry. This is for men who are regularly attending St Mungo’s and it currently takes the form of a Men’s Breakfast, which is usually every 6 weeks or so. It is an opportunity for fellowship, looking at a relevant topic together, and there is time for worship and prayer. It is a supportive and inclusive environment. Women's Ministry In 2007 St Mungo's launched a women's ministry. This is for women who regularly attend St Mungo's and takes the form of a Saturday evening together every 6 to 8 weeks or so. it is an opportunity for fellowship, worship, prayer and thinking about becoming the women God created them to be. Prison Ministry
St Mungo's now has an established link with the Edinburgh Prison, through
the Chaplaincy service there. A small team from St Mungo's and Holy
Trinity (Wester Hailes) has been doing sessional work with some of the
men, focusing on major life issues. There has also been opportunity to lead
Sunday morning worship meetings.
