St Mungo’s Staff

    Malcolm Round

    is our Rector (senior minister) of St Mungo’s, and as such oversees all the activities of the church, though many are delegated to the staff team and to a wider leadership within the church. He also has a role in networking with local and national churches.

    Richard McArthur

    is our Associate Minister.  He is one of our main Bible teachers and also has a particular role in leading our outreach, including running our Alpha courses. He also takes a lead role in overseeing and developing our UK and World Mission partnerships. He was a vet many years ago and also has a background in student ministry.

    Clare Gardner

    Clare Gardner

    is our Director of Children’s Ministry.  Her role involves envisioning, managing and developing the children’s teams, writing material, providing training and co-leading the lower primary group. Midweek activities include the local SU group and a discipleship group for P6-7. She has overseen the development of a group for children with additional needs and meets regularly with children’s teams in other churches. She completed a Diploma in Christian Counselling to complement her teaching qualifications and set up beme, a counselling service for children and young people.

    Andrea Wigglesworth

    is our Director of Counselling and leads the “Life & Soul” service at the St Mungo’s Wellness Centre in Balerno. This service is open to the Church and the wider community. Andrea is a Certified Counsellor,  Clinical Supervisor,Imago Therapist and member of the Teaching Team. She also has a heart for mission and serves the wider Church in preaching and teaching at conferences.

    Pete Brutin

    Pete Brutin

    Pete Brutin is our Operations Manager and works 3 and a half days per week.  Pete is responsible for the buildings and equipment,  website,  Tech and Hosting Rota’s as well as managing large scale projects.  As Vestry Secretary Pete is responsible for ensuring that Vestry are made aware of any operational issues and developments that need to be discussed and resourced, as well as creating agenda’s and minutes.  Pete is also responsible for Health and Safety and importantly ensuring the smooth running of Sunday service activites.

    Lesley Penny

    Lesley Penny is a Teaching Associate, one of the teaching team at St Mungo’s, having previously been Worship Director for many years until Jan 2014.  She is employed very part-time (4 hours/week) and provides cover for service production on Sundays to help preserve the sanity of the current worship director, Neil Thompson.

    Lesley also works as a veterinary surgeon and has a  PhD in cattle reproduction. If you ever have any questions about cows…..

    Pat Banfil

    Pat Banfill

    is our Pastoral Assistant whose role includes the identification of personal development needs and putting on courses and workshops to meet those needs, working with individuals, couples and families who are facing particular challenges or difficulties

    Bill Thompson

    Bill Thompson

    is our full time Pastoral Worker who meets with men on a one to one basis and works with couples, too. He oversees our links with our Social Action partners, in particular Holy Trinity (Wester Hailes), and Bethany Christian Trust. He also leads the Men’s Ministry in St Mungo’s. Bill has other management responsibilities including Health and Safety and Disability.

    Helen Crow

    is currently on maternity leave as Head of Youth Evangelism.  Her passion is to see young people reach their potential through; growing in their relationship with God, being stretched and developed in their gifts, and learning to be the people God has made them to be and is therefore happy to organise anything that will help them do so.  Helen works on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

    Sarah Tomb

    is Head of Youth Discipleship.  Her role is to oversee and organise all teams and activities that are connected to Youth discipleship.  This includes Sunday morning events and groups like RS2 (S1-S2), Cell groups (S3–S6), our monthly ‘Envision’ service, our Young Leader group (S5-S6) and our Youth Worship group.  This also involves running discipleship courses like Freedom in Christ and organising or arranging to take young people to any events, training and conferences with a discipleship focus.  She also involved with nbt (S3–S6) on a Friday night and a Scripture Union group in Balerno High School on Wednesday lunchtimes.  Her passion is to see young people realise and grow into their God-given potential.  To help equip and empower young people for a passionate life long journey of faith!  Sarah works in the office Monday to Thursday.

    George Gera

    George is currently covering the maternity leave filled by Helen Crow, acting as Head of Youth Evangelism, under the leadership of Sarah Tomb and Clare Gardner.  George co-ordinates nrg (age s1-s3) and nbt (age s3-s6) on Friday nights, the Youth Alpha Course, SU at Balerno High School and other youth outreach events.  He is passionate for equipping young people to seek, find, live and share the truth.  George is a long term senior youth team volunteer and is therefore well known amongst the youth.  He works Monday and Wednesday to Friday.

    Katherine Burnett

    Katherine Burnett

    is our Treasurer and  Finance Manager and responsible for managing the church’s money, supported by Ruth Smith. Katherine works on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

    Peter Wigglesworth

    is our Operations Coordinator and works part time with Peter Brutin on building, technology and communication matters. He also has responsibility for website updates and any other odds and ends that need doing!  Peter has a BSc in engineering followed by a background in sales and centre management. He does enjoy being involved with the more practical aspects of the Church and looks forward to the challenges ahead!

    Kate Yates

    Kate Yates

    works two days a week as the Rector’s Administrator, so she is in charge of all the bookings for the church, the administration of the services in Balerno High School, rotas, information distribution and will generally know the answer when no one else does!  She is also part of the team having oversight of the housegroups, and twice a week heads up the St Mungo’s group for babies/toddlers and their carers.

    Wendy Brown

    Wendy Brown

    is our full-time Office Administration Manager. She shares her work between the youth and children’s ministries and general reception/admin duties.


    Sharan Collins

    is our Wellness Centre Manager and is responsible for the daily running of the Life & Soul Wellness Centre in Balerno. Sharan  helps to organise Study Days, Imago Couple Conferencesand special Wellness Events throughout the year. She also co-ordinates the Creche for Sunday services.

    Ruth Smith

    is our Book Keeper and can be seen in her counting house on Mondays and Wednesdays.
