Passing the Baton for Older People is a Bethany Christian Trust project that organises befriending relationships for those over 65 who are isolated and lonely. They may be people who are living in their own homes or in sheltered housing. The befriending relationship lasts for about a year when hopefully they will have built up new friendship groups and be more active in the community. Our volunteers (who have to be over 21) do not need to have any previous experience and will be given training relating to the project. The time commitment is just a couple of hours each or every other week. Other aspects of Passing the Baton for Older People are Activities Groups, these may include singing groups, arts and crafts groups and coffee mornings etc. in churches or sheltered housing complexes. The next Edinburgh training event for befriending is Saturday January 17th, 9.45-4pm. For more information please contact Jennifer Nelson.
