What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment. It is a practical introduction to the Christian faith and gives the opportunity to explore big questions like ‘what is the point of life?’, ‘what happens when we die?’ and ‘is forgiveness possible?’

Alpha consists of a series of talks, looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’   There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you the opportunity to get know others on the course.  After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion when you can ask any question you like and say what you think.

Alpha runs over ten or eleven weekday evenings with an optional away day in the middle, and at St Mungo’s our Alpha is on Thursdays 7.30-9.45pm. You will also find Alpha Courses at other churches in Edinburgh.

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone and anyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.

What does Alpha cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha cost, except for the optional away day about half way through the course.

When does the next course start?

Our next course  will begin with a Taster Evening on Thursday 23 September. Come and enjoy a free 3 Course meal at our church building, followed by a DVD talk entitled “Is there more to Life than this?”
