What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment, and over 18 million people around the world have now done it.

It’s a course with small groups of about twelve people with a host and helper.  There are usually around ten evening sessions with a day away in the middle.  Each session starts with a buffet meal.  Then there is a short talk looking at a different aspect of the Christian faith, and then time for discussion.   At St Mungo’s our Alpha is on Thursday evenings 7.30-9.45pm. You will also find Alpha Courses at other churches in Edinburgh.

Who is Alpha for?

Never been to church?  Not sure what you believe?  Maybe you gave up on church a long time ago.  The course was designed for you or anyone who doesn’t go to church regularly.

What does Alpha cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha cost, except for the optional away day about half way through the course.

When does the next course start?

Our next course will be launched with a special event at the end of September 2013.  It’s a great evening – an informal 3 course meal, followed by an after dinner talk ‘Is there more to life than this?’  You don’t have to say anything or do anything – just come along and enjoy some good food, meet some interesting people, and listen to a thought provoking presentation.
