Report on our Global Alpha Team’s work in Mombasa, Kenya

Thank you for your prayers – many were answered! Most importantly, church leaders at the training event are keen to implement Alpha in their churches and ministries. Pastor Tee Nalo and his wife Liz have a 3 year old church Praise Chapel with 700 attending. They have been looking for a tool to disciple new Christians and their youth and believe Alpha is ideal. They were present for the whole training and are already planning their first Alpha courses.(praisechapelkenya.org)
Other church leaders with smaller churches are equally keen. Churches in Africa are full of people but discipling them all is a huge challenge – Alpha seems ideal to meet that challenge, as well as being a great tool for evangelism.
Alpha teams from the host church Mombasa Pentecostal Church (mpcmsa.org) were also present and it was great to be able to give them high quality training. One team runs Alpha among the youth and young adults, another runs Alpha in some of the local prisons. We visited the graduation ceremony of one prison Alpha course – 21 graduating – 18 being young Christians now discipled and 3 being people who had become Christians through the course. All 300-400 low security prisoners were present for the ceremony, I got the opportunity to preach the gospel, and in response to a call for salvation from my interpreter four came forward to receive Jesus into their lives.
The whole St Mungo’s team did a fantastic job, and the worship and fellowship we enjoyed with the Alpha Kenya and Mombasa Pentecostal Church teams was a true taste of heaven. God is good and Jesus really is building his church all around the world! Richard McArthur
